"Obviously, normal people don't go out to work drunk, but for an alcoholic, it's entirely normal to go out of your brain. That's what I did for years. But hopefully not anymore, hopefully. The last show we played in Paris, I was straight as a die. It did feel weird not to be hiding behind alcohol or dope, but being focused was good."

"Keith (Richards) still has a few, but even he has been watching himself recently. Mostly we are all very well behaved these days. Charlie (Watts) doesn't touch anything now and Mick (Jagger) will only have a glass of wine on a night off. But it's easier for them - alcohol is in my genes." Drugs & Drinking
"Dope, cocaine, heroin - though I never did like injecting, fortunately, and it was that that probably saved me from OD'ing. I've been lucky: I've lost so many friends to that ... I just think my body can't handle it anymore. I did try a little drink a while back, and I was actually physically ill. I went into an immediate depression, and felt awful, just dreadful. So that's it. I'm over it now. I am."
Quote from: The Complete 'Independent Online' Interview
As my first sponsor, Dave L, used to say, "If you hang around the barber-shop long enough, sooner or later you're bound to get a haircut!" In other words, if you're a recovering alcoholic, you might want to stay away from bars. Here's a short video about a fellow who finds himself in a slippery situation:

Drinking Spillage Joke
A man sitting in the bar found that the front of his trousers was all wet. Turning to the man on his right he asked, "Did you pour beer on my trousers?" "Nope," came the reply. Then, turning to the man on his left, he asked, "Did you pour beer on my trousers?" The man also replied, "Nope." "Then it must be an inside job," he murmured.
