today's quota: Admitting You're an Alcoholic

Sick of Sugarcoating the Past
"Part of me is sick of sugarcoating my past... I could just say I had a drinking problem, or I can really tell it like it is... I can stop being afraid of who will find me out. There's real power in telling your secrets... I had no control over how I would act when I was drinking... I could be mean, aggressive, nice, promiscuous... I suddenly saw myself doing this, and I thought, 'This isn't a way to live, this is a way to die'... I was a little nervous about coming out as an alcoholic, but now none of that matters. What matters is to deliver a message that's meaningful."
- Melissa Ellefson quote, 'Alcoholic, Not Anonymous'

Good Question
"How can we resent the life we've created for ourselves?"
- Richard Bach quote

Raise Your Hand if
You're an Alcoholic

There Is A Solution
"There is an easy way and a hard way to recovery from alcoholism. The hard way is by just going to meetings" (Doctor Bob quote). You can try the hard way and keep it complicated. Or you can go the easier softer way and keep it simple.

today's quota: Addiction Music

Drunk & Scared
"Cause now I’m drunk again
The means to my end...
Cause now it’s the same, the faces and names
And I’m scared of myself again...."
- Reel Big Fish lyrics, 'Drunk Again'

Don't Do It!
"Ticket to ride, white line highway
Tell all your friends, they can go my way
Pay your toll, sell your soul
Pound for pound costs more than gold.
The longer you stay, the more you pay
My white lines go a long way
Either up your nose or through your vein
With nothin' to gain except killin' your brain...
A million magic crystals, painted pure and white
A multi-million dollars almost overnight
Twice as sweet as sugar, twice as bitter as salt
And if you get hooked baby, it's nobody else's fault, so don't do it!"
- Grandmaster Flash lyrics, 'White Lines'

quipping post: Drinking, Drugging, and Dancing

Drinking
"I would see cats coming out of the club so tipsy and drunk that they're two-stepping."
- J-Kwon Rapper quote

Drugging
"I'd stay away from Ecstasy. This is a drug so strong it makes white people think they can dance."
- Lenny Henry quote

today's quota: Exploring the Realms of Alcohol

"Last night I went to drunk-land, and my drunk-twin took my place. But he was in pretty good form. I was lucky this time. However, many's the time I've awoken, and found that my drunk twin was in horrible form. 'I wanted to punch you in the face last night,' my friend will say. 'Yeah, I was this close,' will add another. And I'll sit there, and think, hell, I don't remember any of that. For me, alcohol resembles an evil spirit; it possesses my body. It makes me do all manner of annoying, taboo things; and then it leaves me, and I'm left with the consequences."
- Jeff Gaither, 'Exploring the Realms of Alcohol'

"I'd sit in the living room thinking that something was wrong with me... I was always waiting for the next crisis, the next time I'd send him to the store and he wouldn't come back... Do I love him? Yeah. I'll probably always love him. That hurts... It's very sad to see someone destroy their life like that... That's not something I want in my life ever again."

Joseph Ratzinger Quotes, aka Pope Benedict XVI:

"God gives so that we can give."

"...the more we trust Him, the more we find Him, the more we discover the love and freedom that sustain us through all the nights."

"The world does not need to be alone. In the desolation the men don’t have to be lost here and there, tragically staying ultimately alone..."

"We always work on our internal problems and we do not realize that the world is in need of answers; it does not know how to live. The world's inability to live properly is seen in drugs, terrorism, etc. Therefore, the world is thirsty for answers - and we remain with our problems. I am convinced that if we go out to meet others... even our internal problems will be relativized and resolved."

today's quota: Addicted to Stress & Chaos

"The problem with any addiction is that the high is transitory and one always needs a bigger high to experience the rush. Addiction gives a person a false sense of control. Deep down the addict has lost personal power. A stress-addict is looking to feel numb through distraction to avoid dealing with the source of unhappiness and loss of control. It is easier to be incredibly busy than to face the painful layers of grief accumulated during the course of a lifetime. There are no new hurts; only old ones with a different cast of characters, conflicts and dramas."

today's quota: The Alcoholic Label

"Being a recovering alcoholic is nothing to be embarrassed about in today’s world. In fact, in many social settings, it has become a status symbol. The only problem that you are going to have to deal with is... that label being tacked onto your shoulders. Not to be flip but, if that is the case, get over it. There are a lot worse things that people can think about you; being an alcoholic is certainly not one of them."

today's quota: A Sobering Place

"Mom doesn't drink anymore. 'I just got tired,' she recently told me. 'Getting up drunk, going to bed drunk. I got tired of living that life.' Nearly three decades after she sipped her first rum and Coke at a military dance, she stopped. No more Schlitz, no more Hennessy, no more whiskey sours. She's a faithful adherent to a 12-step program and hasn't had a drink in nearly five years. Meanwhile, I kept my promise. I didn't drink. I stepped outside my mother's footsteps and walked in another direction. It took me, literally and figuratively, to a sobering place. Occasionally I get an urge to leave there. But when I do, I grab something sweet - a Shirley Temple."
- Monique Fields, 'A Sobering Place: Child of an Alcoholic...'

Daily Andy Capp Cartoon Here

Beer Quote
"Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza."
- Dave Barry quote

Drunk Joke
A drunk was considering joining a church. Having no religious background, he asked a preacher how the services worked. "Just show up Sunday! There will be prayers, a short homily, then communion; at our church we use bread and non-alcohol grape juice." The grape juice was a bit of a dissapointment, but the drunk needed more information. "How much does it cost?" The preacher explained, "We're not out to make a profit so members only give what they can." The drunk thought about it: "In that case padre, instead of the same old bread and grape juice, how about I bring pizza and beer for everyone?"

today's quota: The Life of a Young Drunk

"The life of a young drunk is not a continuous fall into the pit of abject alcohol abuse. It is a herky-jerky evolution. You slip, you trip, and you tumble into the habit of drinking when you are afraid, or enraged, or heartsick, and every so often, you hit a ledge from which you can see how deep into dependence you are. Every so often, you feel so lost in the hollow of your own need that you decide to try to hoist yourself out of it."

"Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish."
- Albert Einstein

"I repeat, let no one think me foolish; but even if you do, accept me as a fool, so that I too may boast a little."
- St Paul, 2 Corinthians 11:16

"At that stage I’d have denied with my life that I was in trouble with alcohol. Yet at the back of my mind, I knew. I was in complete denial... In the end, I had to have it all the time, and in the end you’ll do anything to get it. Beg, borrow or steal, you’ll do it to get it. Believe me, you will. You do your level best to keep one foot ahead of everybody else, but you’re not fooling anybody."

A drunk managed to forget his wife's birthday, yet again. "You forgot our anniversary, too! You're so inconsiderate, I always remember your special day!" critics: Online Review of dryblog?

A review of dryblog has recently been published online by a third-party non-addiction website. Among other things, it states the following: "Even though dryblog is mostly about addiction and alcoholism, it's free of the typical drunk trash-talk you might hear at your local tavern. So what's the point? Avoid it at all costs..." Truth be told, no such review exists - Happy April Fool's Day! But if you do find dryblog lacking in trash-talk, blame it on sobriety!
